AHCCCS received a $900,000 grant from the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to increase treatment services and support for pregnant and postpartum women with substance use disorders.
Grant funding will be used throughout the state to ensure that women with substance use disorder, including opioid use disorder, who are pregnant or postpartum, have access to needed health services and feel supported in their recovery journey. The grant aims to increase outreach, engagement, screening, and assessments among this population.
Resources will also be used to expand infrastructure and build multi-sector learning collaboratives among communities, public and behavioral health providers, government and tribal agencies, managed care organizations, law enforcement and corrections. These entities will work together to expand treatment opportunities and reduce stigma that can act as a barrier to women seeking treatment.
Services supported by this grant are not limited to Medicaid beneficiaries.
