Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Provider Types Subject to High-Risk Screening
New and existing NEMT providers will be required to meet additional registration requirements
AHCCCS has developed new policies and made system changes to implement high-risk screening for new and revalidating Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) provider type 28 (PT-28) applicants beginning May 1, 2023. This new policy will allow any NEMT PT-28 to apply directly for provider registration in the AHCCCS Provider Enrollment Portal (APEP), effective May 1, 2023.
What providers need to know:
- New NEMT PT-28 applicants
- Applicants will be screened at high-risk; this includes fee, site visit, and fingerprint criminal background check,
- Applications will be accepted on or after May 1, 2023, and
- Applications will not be back-dated; AHCCCS will provide the effective date once the NEMT provider is fully screened.
- Existing NEMT PT-28 providers
- Existing providers will be screened at high-risk at the time of revalidation, scheduled to begin June 2023; this includes enrollment fee, site visit, and fingerprint criminal background check.
