The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) will hold the bi-annual review of the Arizona State Plan to End Suicide on Monday, March 18, 10 a.m. to noon at the AHCCCS Phoenix office, 701 E. Jefferson, Phoenix. Community members are invited to attend.
“Arizona ranks 17th in the nation in rate of suicide with at least one death by suicide occurring every day. The State Plan to End Suicide is a collaborative effort among various health agencies and advocates to stem the rates of suicide, educate citizens that suicide is preventable, and build awareness of resources available to help those in crisis and in recovery,” said Kelli Williams, Suicide Prevention Administrator for AHCCCS.
In coordination with Arizona Suicide Prevention Coalition and on behalf of the citizens of Arizona, AHCCCS updates the Arizona State Plan to End Suicide bi-annually regarding the state’s initiatives to prevent suicide. It provides recommendations including strategic directions, objectives and strategies specific to Arizona. The four strategic directions are the same as those given in the National Strategy with the goals, objectives, and strategies closely following the national plan. The statewide strategies identified in the plan are those that can be directly supported by the Arizona Suicide Prevention Coalition and AHCCCS.
The review of the state plans allows stakeholders to add insights and propose changes to the current plan.
